I'm not sure what was special about Washington's original idea about Thursday, November 26th, but in my opinion, Thanksgiving is towards the end of November because it allows us time to reflect on what we have to be thankful for for the present year. From January to November, there are so many things we have to be thankful for and by Thanksgiving, I believe we are to take the time to celebrate. over a good meal with family and friends.
You may be thinking, why isn't it in December because December is the last month of the year?... I believe it is just to be the end of November because once we reflect on what we have to be thankful for and celebrate this with those who have given to us, we have to celebrate by giving back.
So by December 1st, we are focused on giving back to those who have given to us throughout the year. This doesn't necessarily mean buying someone something for Christmas, but finding a away to give as they have given to you and maybe even more. You may even give to those who haven't given to you because you realized how much of a blessing it is to have something to be thankful for and you want others to have the same feeling.
So whether or not George Washington had this vision for Thanksgiving, I believe this is why Thanksgiving is celebrated in November and I look forward to the wonderful celebration every year.
