"I've done makeup for Chrisette Michele, Wayne County Prosecutor, Kym Worthy and I've been featured in Essence Magazine. Hollywood actress, Lonette McKee is now the face of the brand."
How did you come up with the name EB Cosmetics for your brand? The name came out of the first born girl in my family. For the past five generations, Elise has always been the female's middle name. 'Beautifull', is a part of the name because I thought it was important to make all my clients beautiful. The company, Elise Beautfull is designed to fulfill the needs in women's lives such as life coaching, cosmetics and jewelry. Elise Beautifull started out as life coaching and grew into EB Cosmetics because many clients would ask me to help them with their makeup after seeing how I do my own.
How long have you been in business? We've been in business since 2008 and Elise Beautifull started in 2007. I started testing my product on my clients and because they received it so well, I decided it was time to grow my brand.
How has your business continued to be successful? I started out at a kiosk in the mall and now I am located in a suite in Rochester, Michigan. I have been at this location since 2011. By June 2014, I will have my products in ten boutiques so most people in Michigan will have access to my product.
I understand you are a pastor and Life Coach as well so how are you able to manage all of that? Being organized is the key. I've also opened a school where I teach others how to be a life coach.
What is your advice to young entrepreneurs? Research thoroughly on the product, area or field you are pursuing. It is key to understand who your target market is. Get a focus group of people you don't know. Also, don't see negative remarks as negatives. See them as places to grow.
How do you decide what products from your line will look best on your clients? By researching the fashion trends to determine what product to create and by doing so, I am 3-4 seasons ahead. I also discontinue what product is not working.
Who have you done makeup for? I've done makeup for Chrisette Michele, Wayne County Prosecutor, Kym Worthy and I've been featured in Essence Magazine. Hollywood actress, Lonette McKee is now the face of the brand.
What separates you from your competitors? The level of customer service. WIth all the technology we have, we still are very personable. I am not focused on sales even though they are important. I want my clients to leave with a product that they are so in love with, they are my client for life. I've created a line that has crossed barriers. It's not for a black woman, it's for all women.
How would you describe your clientele? Professional women between the ages of 30 and 50 who are interested in purchasing products that have quantity as well as quality. In terms of quantity, I want my clients to be able to purchase what they need when they need it because I have the inventory for it.
