If you're like me, you carry all your tension in your shoulders. If so, downward-facing dog pose is your best friend. Creating an upside down "V" with your body and pulling your head between your arms will relieve this tension. I often place my chin against my chest to intensify this and hold the pose for a few minutes.
Maybe your tension stays in your mind and causes you to have a stress headache. I've had these before and it seems like sleeping is the answer but it's difficult when your mind is still busy thinking about other things when you're trying to sleep. Listening to peaceful music and a quick yoga session will heal this. The repetition of transitioning from downward-facing dog to plank and then to upward dog is the perfect remedy (you'll notice this sequence when you attend a yoga class). Downward-facing dog relieves headaches, planks provide a neutral body position and upward-facing dog relieves depression.
If you have little to no time to take a class on a regular basis, you should get the yoga app where you can choose from 45 yoga programs, create your own sequences or just learn some new poses. It definitely comes in handy when you want to do yoga at your convenience but also want to grow in your yoga aesthetic without having to attend a class!
Before ending any yoga session, a class should always end in "namaste." You're in the same position I've shown here (which is how you'll start) except it involves placing your hands together and both you and the instructor will bow and say "namaste" in unison. It was only a few months ago that I found a post on instagram that relays the message behind this powerful word. Here's what it means:
I honor the place in where the entire universe resides.
I honor the light, love, truth, beauty and peace within you.,
because it is also within me.
In sharing these things we are united, we are the same, we are one.
By performing yoga, you'll be more peaceful and the inner beauty you possess will shine so much brighter because you'll live a life that is more sound and less stressful. Whether it's everyday or just one day a week, you'll live more peacefully.
