When things are not going well for us and we hear about the wonderful things that other people are doing, we have a natural tendency to get jealous because we are unhappy. We are also naturally competitive so even when we are doing well, we will often get jealous of someone who we think are doing better. There is a reason why at this moment you are doing and experiencing certain things. We are all different so we will all have a different journey in life. Even when we walk in someone else's shoes, we walk a different way and their shoes may either be too big or too small.
We should have the integrity to be ourselves no matter who is around us. Don't present yourself in a different way whenever you are around someone with a different mindset. Be true to your character and what you believe. Don't change who you are to please others or to get what you want. Be and do what you think and feel is right. You should care more about pleasing yourself than people who don't care about you.
If you are trying to please your boss 40 hours a week, you've created a new version of yourself, which is a job in itself. Pleasing your boss is not always a good investment. Some bosses will even give you more work to do in this "job" you've created because they know you will do it. They will even neglect to give you that promotion you wanted after all the hard work you've done, in which you would only work even harder to get the next promotion. So if this isn't a foolproof plan, why invest in it when you can be less-stressed and honest with yourself? I will only please my boss to a certain extent because I've been burned too many times to create a second job without an increase in my paycheck.
I struggled to start my career for years and I would experience ridiculous things that would make me just say, really? A company asked me if I was still interested in an unpaid internship so I flew out for the interview (on my own dime) only to find out that the company filed for bankruptcy 2 weeks later. I have several stories to follow this. During this timeframe I would see so many people getting jobs that I wanted that they didn't work hard for and didn't even appreciate. But I've learned over the years that I am destined to be an entrepreneur and if I had gotten the jobs I thought I wanted, I would be on a different path of life that I probably wouldn't want.
Whatever you are meant to accomplish in life will happen how and when it's supposed to happen. As you experience more in life, you will learn that you gain more on a mental, physical and spiritual level when you are honest with yourself. You will become more peaceful and will find a more positive perception of life.
