Girlie is defined as "featuring minimally clothed or naked women, typically in pornography. Weak, timid, or effeminate. Used of men." I wonder how the word "girlie" has allowed us to associate a feminine woman with being weak, involved with pornogrpahy and used by men. If being feminine is defined as having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with women, then are all women considered "girlie"?
When looking up the definition on google, it suggests this same kind of meaning but includes a definition that describes what I thought this word meant. Although I understand that there are positive and negative definitions of this word, I would rather no one call me this word. I would never want to be described as someone who is used by men or someone you could find in pornography. I am none of those things.
Being a woman is beautiful and what makes our femininity "girlie"? Yes, we are sensitive but that does not make us weak, if anything it makes us strong. A sensitive person feels the world in his or her soul so they often experience more pain than others. It is easy for someone who does not feel anything to let go of something they never cared about. It takes strength for a sensitive person to let go of something they put their heart into.
The feminine woman embraces her body and when associated with being "girlie," she is usually fully clothed. My look above would be a great example of what the world typically describes as "girlie", I am wearing a Forever 21 v-neck tee, an Asos mini-skirt and Betsey Johnson leopard print heels paired with one of her necklaces. I am fully clothed in this feminine and youthful look. I feel beautiful, empowered and feminine, as you can see from the pictures. I am anything but "girlie."
This is one of the reasons I look up words that I believe I know the meaning of. Sometimes the words align exactly with how people use them while other times the definitions are enlightening for better or for worse. Choose your words wisely and define your own style. I will now call my look "beautiful chic" as beautiful means pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically and chic means style and elegance.. I am not "girlie," I am beautifully chic.
