Brands have a carefully selected target market for who they want to appeal to which involves everything about that individual. They consider just about every aspect of your lifestyle. Although they strive to reach that ideal client each and every time, the reality is we are all different. So something that works for one person in that target market may not work for another.
Have you ever walked into a store and realized that nothing fits you? Maybe their sizes run too small or too big? Do you have to get everything hemmed because you are too short or are you flooding due to lack of fabric? This is not a defect in the brand's garments, they often make their clothes for a specific body type as well. I love maxi dresses, maxi skirts and jumpsuits but I think it's ridiculous to spend more money on a garment just so it will fit you. You can even mess up the design this way.
That's why I love the brand Bar III. All of these pieces that were made for tall people, fit me perfectly. But do I love everything that Bar III designs? No, but that doesn't mean I'm not considered a client of theirs. I just may not be an ideal client. Although some brands may have 4 specified clients they cater to. These women may be similar or completely different.
In my opinion, there aren't any specific brands that cater to me specifically. If I considered everything about myself, I don't believe I would "fit" in a specific category. I believe there are certain brands that fit in my budget but I don't like the quality, some I love but cannot afford at the moment and some that fall within my lifestyle that I can shop when I invest or get a great deal. I think this is true for most shoppers.
The truth is, there is a piece of us in every brand.. We are not the same person everyday as our mood changes and what we do in life changes, especially when we involve ourselves with different people. Overall, I may be a BCBG woman as I possess good style and a good attitude (bon chic, bon genre) but wearing it everyday doesn't reflect how I feel. I may be a Rag & Bone woman one day because sometimes I feel strong and daring. Another day, I may feel feminine and soft so Betsey Johnson is what I may wear that day. These brands are all different but they each reflect me in some way.
I think you should consider the brands you choose to shop because people will associate you with those brands. I'm not saying to shop for others but shop for your personal image. There are brands that are marketing to "sluts." I would never want to brand myself as a slut because not only will people associate me with being one, I will unconsciously start to believe that I am one and will become a part of that lifestyle. As the shoes, garments and accessories will reflect what a slut would wear. So be aware of the brands you shop but wear the pieces that reflect you best.
