You don't have to have the traditional trench rain coat either; although, the trench is a fabulous find. Any coat that is water resistant can suffice as your rain coat. If you're fortunate, your rain coat can be used as one of your winter coats (as long as it's not too heavy).
I like the style on many rain coats so I often wear them in the fall and spring even when it's not raining. With rain boots however, I only wear them when it's raining. I feel ridiculous wearing them as an everyday pair of shoes because I would never purchase a pair of rain boots beyond its functional purpose. Nevertheless, I make sure the pair I purchase appeal to my personal style.
I've realized the best rain boots to purchase are ones with fur on the inside. This way you can wear them in the winter when it snows instead of purchasing the traditional Ugg boot that gets ruined by the snow. Be & D creates the fur rain boots and I've styled a look that includes them in my Rain Falls post.
